Abstract

A medida que envejecemos, la densidad óptica del cristalino se incrementa, lo cual implica una reducción de su transmitancia. Sin embargo, esta disminución no es la misma para todas las longitudes de onda. El objetivo de este trabajo es evaluar si la percepción de la luminosidad se ve afectada por el cambio de transmitancia del ojo con la edad. Para ello, se realizó un experimento de igualación de luminosidades entre estímulos de luz azul y estimulos de luz roja sobre un fondo negro. Se seleccionaron dos grupos de observadores de distinta edad: 20-30 años y 65 años o más. La luminosidad de todos los estímulos fue calculada mediante el modelo CAM15u. Se encontró una diferencia significativa en la percepción de luminosidad para los estímulos de luz azul entre los dos grupos de edad, en terminos generales, los adultos mayores perciben como menos luminosos a los estímulos con gran emisión de luz de longitudes de onda cortas, lo cual podría ser una consecuencia de la pérdida de transmitancia con la edad.

As we age, the optical density of the eye lens increases, which implies a reduction in its transmittance. However, this decrease is not the same for all wavelengths. The aim of this work is to evaluate whether the perception of brightness is affected by the change in transmittance of the eye with age. For this purpose, an experiment of brightness matching between blue-light stimuli and red-light stimuli on a black background was carried out. Two groups of observers of different ages: 20-30 years old and 65 years old or more were selected. The brightness of all the stimuli were calculated using the CAM15u model. It was found a significant difference in the perception of brightness for blue light stimuli between the two age groups. In general terms, older adults perceive stimuli with high emission of light in short wavelengths as less bright, which could be a consequence of loss of transmittance with age.
