Abstract

This paper aims to analyze La débil mental (2014) by Ariana Harwicz from the perspective of the affective turn. Specifically, it seeks to reflect on the spaces of mediation between bodies and objects, as it is within these spaces that the affective orientations of the female characters become evident. Inclinations or rejections toward environments, bodies, and objects shape the contours of space, while also establishing power relations, systems of valuation, and intersubjective dynamics. In this way, the paper proposes to examine affects—and in particular, the telephone—as elements with agentive capacity that influence the configuration of interaction spaces, the narrative voice, and ultimately, the tone of the novel.
