The Aguada Portezuelo pottery style denotes a complex production process, with an iconography that stands out for its polychromy within the pre-Hispanic pottery of northwest Argentina, with investigations that were characterized by studying the macroscopic aspects, with few interventions dedicated to the analysis of pastes. For this reason, in this paper we present the results obtained from the analysis of the invisible characteristics of the Aguada Portezuelo pottery, from a sample made up of 87 fragments from different sites in the central valley of Catamarca, approaching it through submicroscopic analysis (binocular magnifying glass) and microscopic (thin section petrography). Through this approach we seek to expand the knowledge about this style, contributing to the technological characterization, more specifically in the first moments of the process of making the vessels.
