Abstract

"Souvent femme varie, bien fol est qui s´y fie" es una frase forjada por Victor Hugo a partir de un boceto que Francisco I habría grabado con su anillo de diamantes en una de las ventanas del castillo de Chambord, aunque el origen apócrifo del relato parece tan insondable como el adagio que sobrevive a los siglos apuntando que la mujer, por naturaleza inconstante, no amerita confianza alguna. Las últimas palabras del film de Raoul Ruiz, enunciadas por un vigilante del palacio, dicen que "Luis XIV rompió el vidrio para complacer a su amante, Mademoiselle de la Vallière". La imagen, en cambio, sostiene la mirada en uno de los cristales del cuadrante inferior donde se muestra que la inscripción sigue estando ahí. El episodio desnuda las contradicciones de una historia vertiginosa, que las secuencias finales de Les divisions de la nature invitan a desandar.
