Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore the uses of ICTs by teenagers in the popular sectors of Buenos Aires, within the framework of public programs based on the model One Laptop per Child. The methodology consisted of twenty in-depth interviews, a survey (n = 450) and observations of teenagers from middle and popular sectors. Results show that teenagers from middle and popular sectors use the same communication and entertainment platforms in their spare time. Also, the incorporation of ICTs in schools motivates and interests them. However, it is noted that conditions of economic and socio-cultural inequality affect the school use of ICTs, reproducing the digital divide.
