Abstract

This article aims to provide a theory-political reading of Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala's First New Chronicle and Good Government, 1615. It explores the way in which he links liberation with the organisation of self-government in cabildos. In his chronicle, the communal hacienda is the pillar for the multiplication of the people and the increase in the power of the people. This is a critique of the discursive devices that already in the 16th century sought to link the communal with the lack of freedom. In contrast, the work of this indigenous intellectual characterises the coloniality of a notion of freedom anchored in the deployment of one's proper.
