The relationship between play and anthropology is long-lived and profound. The aim of this paper is to explore the history of that relationship and review relevant literature on the subject, specifically addressing its particularities in the case of Argentinean anthropological productions. The article then focuses on the analysis of field records in order to account for the particularities acquired by play within the Mbyá Guaraní religious framework, examining the differences between everyday life and exceptional ceremonies, and the role of children’s games, taking into account the dances and song lyrics in both cases.
