In the archaeological locality La Primavera, spatial analysis to study the use of space by mobile hunter-gatherers, have been performed. This has been achieved employing GIS to relate data on archaeological surface distributions to some environmental and social variables. In this paper it is claimed that the election and treatment of variables used required a thorough evaluation, since the inferences extracted from the emerged patterns are affected. So theory and methodological aspects implicated in the implementation of one of the variables presence of shelter are presented here in order to support the idea.
