De Materia Médica a Farmacognosia: El camino hacia la Farmacobotánica en la Universidad de Buenos Aires

Abstract

In the present work, a historical tour of the different disciplines originated from the former Medical Matter to the Pharmacobotany in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Buenos Aires. In this route, the analysis of the progress of the study and the teaching of medicinal flora and plant therapeutics is addressed in relation to pharmacy and biochemistry careers over time. For this, a historical corpus was used formed by specialized bibliography, teaching files and study programs - among other sources - to review these trajectories. In this sense, the changes in the denominations and incumbency of these related disciplines are analyzed, as well as the teachers who carried out teaching and research in these various subjects (from the Protomedicate to the present). It stands out as an articulating axis of this brief, the figure of Professor Doctor Juan Aníbal Domínguez for his academic and teaching work regarding the studies and teaching of local medical flora that he undoubtedly founded for our professions of pharmacists and biochemists. It is a new course that today it is possible to glimpse in the current Pharmacobotany Museum that bears his name.
