Amaranthus hybridus l. Var. Hybridus en un sitio arqueológico del holoceno medio inicial en la puna meridional argentina

Abstract

El objetivo principal de este trabajo es dar a conocer el hallazgo de una especie silvestre del género Amaranthus en un sitio arqueológico cuyo contexto general corresponde a ocupaciones de grupos cazadores-recolectores datadas entre ca.7910 y 7270 años AP. Numerosas semillas de este género fueron recuperadas en varias capas estratigráficas del sitio Peñas de la Cruz 1.1, un alero rocoso ubicado a 3665 msnm en la Puna meridional argentina, en las cercanías de la localidad de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca, Argentina). Se evalúan además las implicancias de este hallazgo en cuanto a la esfera de la subsistencia de estos grupos esencialmente conocidos como cazadores de camélidos. Para el contexto general de los Andes centro-sur, el hallazgo de estas semillas evidenciaría tempranas prácticas de manejo de especies vegetales silvestres orientadas al consumo humano durante el Holoceno medio inicial.
