Abstract

This article aims to study the university students` abandonment and has three main objectives. First, presents the globally prevailing approaches on the phenomenon of university abandonment, characterizing the main lines of approach, their research questions and the differences between them. In the second part, the predominant analytical proposals on higher education abandonment in Argentina are exposed. At this point, the similarities and continuities with global approaches will be brought as well as the aspects that account for the specificity of the local case. Finally, the last section retrieves those studies that do not fall within the types developed in the previous sections. Among these studies, a way to approach the phenomenon of university abandonment to be developed in the doctoral thesis on which this article takes part is presented.
