Abstract

Las grandes clasificaciones étnicas de las sociedades indígenas son hoy cuestionadas e incluso abandonadas por la mayoría de los científicos, que sostienen que las identidades son relacionales, cambiantes y varían según los contextos, cuestión que es una realidad históricamente comprobable. En efecto, las sociedades indígenas patagónicas se autodefinen en la actualidad sobre la base de determinadas identidades preexistentes -particularmente tehuelche y mapuche en el caso rionegrino- razón por la cual resulta necesario, aun conscientes de su complejidad, el tratamiento del tema que se efectúa en este capítulo.
