Abstract

La presencia de azúcar refinada más la de ácidos (ácido fosfórico y ácido cítrico) disminuye el pH y contribuye a la erosión del esmalte dental y al desarrollo de caries. Se debe recordar que en niños y adolescentes la estructura del esmalte dental se encuentra en proceso de maduración y será más susceptible frente al ataque ácido de los alimentos y bebidas consumidas. El pH de las gaseosas es muy bajo, lo que favorece la desmineralización de los tejidos duros del diente induciendo la erosión dental que lleva a la pérdida de esmalte dental por disolución química ejercida por ácidos sin la presencia de bacterias.
