This article studies, from an anthropological perspective, the construction of artistic identifications in the community theater of Buenos Aires, as well as the categories used in these processes and the meanings that emerge in a theatrical field crossed by historical disputes. Throughout the analysis of talks and interviews by community theater players we investigate the construction of links between their practice and certain models of the theatrical practice. Likewise, we present some particularities of these proposals as experiences framed in “arts for social transformation” that pose differential positions with respect to other proposals such as independent theater.
