Abstract

El agua es un bien escaso e indispensable para la vida humana y de gran importancia en el desarrollo socioeconómico de una región, razón por la cual, la gestión sustentable del recurso hídrico cobra especial relevancia. La localidad costera de Pehuen-Có, ubicada en el sudoeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires, posee como única fuente de abastecimiento de agua para consumo humano la alojada en el acuífero freático del cordón costero medanoso. El objetivo de este trabajo fue llevar a cabo un inventario de fuentes potenciales de contaminación, para luego determinar el índice de carga contaminante (ICC) de las mismas y plantear mejoras para la preservación y protección del recurso hídrico por parte de las autoridades y la población en general. De esta manera, utilizando la metodología propuesta por Foster et al. (2002), se logró identificar actividades y procesos con una mayor probabilidad de generar contaminación al acuífero y plantear mejoras para la preservación y protección del recurso hídrico. A partir de los resultados obtenidos, se evidencia que todas las actividades consideradas poseen un ICC de moderado a elevado. Dadas las características geológicas e hidrogeológicas del área y de acuerdo al análisis efectuado en este estudio, queda en evidencia la falta de protección del único recurso de agua disponible para consumo humano en la localidad.

Water is a scarce and essential resource for human life, of great importance in the socioeconomic development of a region, which is why the sustainable management of hydric resources is especially relevant. In the coastal town of Pehuen-Có, located in the southwest of the province of Buenos Aires, the only source of water supply for human consumption is the phreatic aquifer of the coastal dune chain. The objective of this work is to carry out an inventory of potential sources of contamination and the determination of the subsurface contaminant load index of these sources, and to propose improvements for the preservation and protection of water resources by the authorities and the population in general. Thus, using the methodology proposed by Foster et al. (2002), it was possible toidentify activities and processes with a higher probability of generating contamination to the aquifer and to propose improvements for the preservation and protection of the water resource. The results obtained show that all the activities considered have a moderate to high contaminant load index. Given the geological and hydrogeological characteristics of the area and according to the analysis carried out in this study, the lack of protection of the only water resource available for humanconsumption in the zone is evident.
