La libertad

Abstract

Reconciliarse con la idea de libertad. Al menos, mientras dure este ensayo, para poder escribirlo. ¿Es que acaso todos los que escribieron sobre la libertad antes eran libres? ¿Hablaban de algo que conocían? ¿O solo imaginaban? ¿Quiénes sostenían su libertad? Lo que sigue será un recorrido por la idea filosófica de libertad. No tanto una búsqueda de definición, ni siquiera un exhaustivo rastreo de sus apariciones. Pero sí el trazado de un camino posible para rodear una idea que, en general, no está sola. Una idea que ha caído en descrédito y que resuena a una ingenuidad del pasado. La libertad ya no es fiebre. Se quisiera no ensalzarla más, como hicieron todos los moralistas. Decretarla como una forma de orgullo: ¿de qué son libres, a ver? ¿Quiénes lo son? Pensarla como el revés de la ignorancia: ¿es que no ven sus cadenas, acaso? Resumirla en su aparecer hoy como la contraparte de la responsabilidad social: la libertad, un mero modo de gobierno. Darla por un hecho (económico): sí, sí, son libres, y cuánto más ricos, más libres serán.
