Abstract

Diferentes incógnitas alrededor del concepto de la muerte nos han acompañado a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad y lo seguirán haciendo hasta el fin de nuestra especie. En el marco de la sociedad occidental actual se tiende al alejamiento de los restos mortales a través de entierros en cementerios o cremaciones, luego de una serie de prácticas mortuorias (velatorio, procesión e inhumación o cremación en cementerios). Este tipo de relación entre los vivos y los muertos, que nos resulta a simple vista tan obvia y universal, es solo un ejemplo dentro de las múltiples formas en que el ser humano actúa y ha actuado en su relación con los difuntos. La palabra "diversidad" es la que caracteriza a las actitudes que se llevaron a cabo desde el momento de la muerte de una persona dentro de diferentes sociedades humanas. Si reflexionamos por un momento en las formas de procesar la pérdida de seres queridos o de personajes importantes de una sociedad dada, nos encontramos con casos extremadamente variados sobre esas formas de proceder.
