Abstract

In this article, we analyze the audiovisual artistic translation of the national anthem into Argentine Sign Language (LSA) that was approved as the first version of the national Deaf community by the National Association of the Deaf (Confederación Argentina de Sordos). This analysis is also a form of self-reflection regarding our own production, as we are part of the translation team of this version. In this production, the artistic translation involves the transfer of an artistic experience from one language to another, while the audiovisual modality implies the integration of audible elements of the song with the visual modality, which includes both linguistic (LSA) and non-linguistic elements (such as the animated illustrations). We consider this production as part of the Deaf community‘s process of appropriation of the national song within an intercultural approach. Specifically, we focus on some musical and linguistic challenges that arose in the translation process. Likewise, we carry out a contrastive analysis of the decisions made to create an audiovisual artistic version into LSA.
