Abstract

En la primera parte de este trabajo introduzco el debate clásico acerca del significado de los nombres propios. Este debate ha enfrentado a la concepción descriptivista, surgida a partir de la obra seminal de Frege, según la cual los nombres propios tienen un contenido descriptivo, con la concepción de la referencia directa, establecida a partir de la obra de Kripke, según la cual el contenido de los nombres propios es puramente referencial. En la segunda parte, presento de manera sucinta algunos desarrollos de las posiciones clásicas, en particular, la crítica de Dummett al argumento modal de Kripke, la teoría pluriproposicionalista de Perry, para quien es posible compatibilizar el descriptivismo con la referencia directa, y el enfoque milliano de Predelli, según el cual el problema en torno al distinto valor informativo de los pares de oraciones con términos co-referenciales puede ser resuelto en el marco de una teoría milliana de la referencia directa.
