Abstract

This article analyzes the approach to work culture in the social sciences. For this, we look how the cultural approach in work studies is carried out, dividing two ways of conceiving culture, as a notion and s a concept. On the one hand, work culture as a concept is built within an expressly defined analytical framework. Its definition includes the analysis of knowledge, values, attitudes and practices in the workplace. On the other hand, work culture as a notion is configured from common sense. Its emergence accounts for a conception of culture from an ethic of effort and merit. After the development of these two aspects, expressing their scope and limitations, a theoretical reformulation for the analysis of the work culture is proposed, taking into account five central aspects: 1) meanings, 2) activities and definition of situations, 3) relationships, 4) identities, and 5) issues related to ideology, domination, and creativity.
