Current studies show that positive emotions are involved in the construction of social, emotional and cognitive resources that promote good psychosocial functioning in different stages of life. In contrast to what occurs in Anglo-Saxon countries, in Latin America relatively few investigations have been done on this topic. Because the development of certain cognitive, affective, relational and motivational processes that may lead to health or vulnerability in older ages begin during the childhood years, it is worth examining the role of positive emotions during this stage of development. This paper aims to summarize what we know about the functioning of positive emotions in Argentine children. Results of various investigations with Argentine school children, between 8 and 12 years old will be presented. The data allows us to conclude that joy, serenity, complacency, sympathy and gratitude are positive emotions are of great importance in this evolutionary stage as they induce children to control their aggressive behavior, facilitate the occurrence of assertive solutions to handle interpersonal problems, predict prosocial behavior, reduce the likelihood of being rejected by peers, and promote the deployment of cognitive and behavioral patterns that manage and reduce threats and / or solve everyday problems in an appropriate manner. The findings so far are similar to those found with adolescent and adult populations, even from other latitudes.
