Abstract

The objective of this work is to offer a brief description of the main mechanisms and factors that account for the contribution of the greenhouse gases (GHG) from the livestock activities to the climate change. The interactions between the animal production systems and the environment are complex and involve direct and indirect processes occurring in the soil interacting with the covering vegetation, during the feedstuffs digestion and of the feces decomposition processes. In addition, the changes in the use of the soil produce modification in the C and N cycles altering the GHG emitted towards the atmosphere by the agricultural sector.
