Abstract

En 1961, a seis años de la llegada de Alfredo Stroessner al poder, el momento del Sesquicentenario de la Independencia de Paraguay permite analizar la política de la historia desenvuelta por el gobierno y las tensiones con otros actores por la interpretación pública de la historia. El capítulo dedicado al caso paraguayo forma parte de un libro colectivo en torno a la evocación de los ciento cincuenta años de la Independencia a mediados del siglo XX, un momento extraordinario para establecer una acalorada y extensa actividad revisionista sobre el pasado nacional y continental en toda América Latina. El libro presenta once casos de estudio como un acercamiento al desarrollo de las actividades conmemorativas sobre el Sesquicentenario de la Independencia a nivel nacional que se desarrollaron a lo largo del subcontinente entre 1960 y 1974 para demostrar que los diagnósticos planteados en la época demuestran la relevancia a las preguntas sobre qué clase de independencia se había obtenido ciento cincuenta años atrás y qué papel debía jugar la historia como quehacer intelectual y cada país referido en estos trabajos en las condiciones de aquel presente incierto.
