"W dniu 28 lipca 1993 r. minister spraw zagranicznych Krzysztof Skubiszewski i nuncjusz apostolski arcybiskup Józef Kowalczyk podpisali w Warszawie konkordat między Stolicą Apostolską i Rzeczpospolitą Polską, ratyfikowany po długiej dyskusji 23 lutego 1998 r. Była to druga umowa tej rangi w historii stosunków Polski ze Stolicą Piotrową (w okresie przedrozbiorowym zawarto trzy konkordaty szczegółowe: dwa, podpisane za Zygmunta Augusta, dotyczyły obsady beneficjów, trzeci, z czasów saskich, dawał papieżowi swobodę w obsadzaniu opactw)."(...)
