There has been little research on dialect didactics in the Norwegian subject. Teachers must be able to facilitate metalinguistic conversations in the classroom where pupils can explore spoken language variation. The article builds on theories of language awareness, through knowledge, experience, reflection and metalanguage related to spoken language variation. The study is qualitative and based on focus group interviews with teachers and exploratory conversation with pupils in primary school.
