Abstract

Problemstilling for oppgaven er: Hvordan identifiseres og tolkes urbane kvaliteter i strategien for utvikling av næring rundt Youngstorget? Stadig større del av befolkningen bor i byer og byene blir stadig tettere. Men byen innehar kvaliteter som deler av befolkningen ettertrakter. Urbane kvaliteter, kafeer, uteliv, handel og opplevelser du ikke får i rurale områder kjennetegner byen. I Oslo, rundt Youngstorget har en gruppe aktører oppe ønsker om å kunne markedsføre området og bruke de urbane kvalitetene området har som magnet. Dette leder da muligens til økt popularitet av området, hva gjør det med priser og sammensetning av brukere. Et privat initiativ til transformasjon av et området uten kommunal styring og deltakelse, i hvert fall på nåværende stadium, belyses. Aktørene ser for seg et Soho lignede område, en smeltedigel av kulter, handel og opplevelser. Soho blir ansett som en modell eller referanse i prosjektet og er et forbilde for mangfoldet og variasjonen av kultur, handel og opplevelse i et område, som er da et grunnlag for at urbanitet er ressurs. Her har jeg analysert og drøftet en prosess som har transformativ målsetning og fører til endringer i et eldre, etablert område i Oslo. En bydel som anses å være av relativt lav kvalitet men innehar andre ettertraktete elementer. Forståelse av disse prosessene kan være med i å se klarere sammenhengen mellom urbanitet/urbanisme og arealplanlegging og hvordan dette samhandler med næringsdrivende og de markedskreftene som styrer deres motiver og handlinger. Disse analysene blir sett opp mot ulike teoretikere fra midten av 1900 tallet som beskrev byen og byens funksjoner. Hvem av dem blir brukt for å definere urbanitet kan påvirke resultatet og samme gjelder gruppen som forenkler eller anvender modellen. Prosessen er viktig, men en felles forståelse og definisjon av de forenklingen som blir brukt er ikke mindre viktig. The thesis question is: How to identify and interpreted urban qualities of the strategy for economic development around Youngstorget? An increasing proportion of the population lives in cities and towns is becoming denser. But the city holds qualities that parts of the population seek. Urban qualities, cafes, nightlife, commerce and experiences you cannot get in rural areas characterizes the city. In Oslo, around Youngstorget, a group of developers desire to promote the site and use the urban qualities of the area as a magnet. This leads then possibly to increased popularity of the site, what does that to price and the mix of users. A private initiative aimed to transformation of an area without municipal governance and participation, at least at the present stage, will be resolved. Participants envisions a Soho -like area, a melting pot of culture, commerce and experiences. Soho is regarded as a model or reference in the project and is a model for diversity and variety of culture, commerce and experience in an area, which is then the basis for the urbanity as a resource . Here I have analysed and discussed a process that has transformational objectives and leads to changes in an older, established area in Oslo. A district that is considered to be of relatively low quality but holds other desirable items. Understanding of these processes may be involved in seeing more clearly the relationship between urbanity / urbanism and spatial planning and how this interacts with businesses and the market forces that govern their motives and actions. These analyses are based on various theorists from the mid-1900s to describe the city and its functions. Which one is used to define urbanity can affect the result and the same applies to the group that facilitates or uses the model. The process is important, but a common understanding and definition of the simplification used are off no less importance.
