Aristotelismo en la cultura occidental

Abstract

El gran volumen de estudios aristotélicos en la cultura occidental a lo largo de los siglos, ha generado gran variedad de discrepancias e interpretaciones de todo tipo sobre la filosofía iniciada por Aristóteles. Se hace un repaso por las distintas etapas del pensamiento aristotélico, desde la Edad Antigua con el inicio del sistema filosófico por el propio Aristóteles, continuado por sus discípulos o escuela peripatética, continuando con el aristotelismo cristiano que intenta hacer compatible la filosofía del Estagirita con el cristianismo, o el aristotelismo árabe, que surge como reacción a lo anterior, mezclando elementos del averroísmo, en la corriente escolástica. Durante el Renacimiento surgen nuevas interpretaciones en el marco más científico, para continuar después con otra interpretación cristiana de su filosofía basada en la de Santo Tomás. La crisis sólo puede desembocar en estudio con doble finalidad del aristotelismo: un estudio de la evolución progresiva de la filosofía iniciada por el propio Aristóteles por un lado, y por otro la fijación del pensamiento aristotélico.
