Se descubre la vida cotidiana de este pueblo guerrero procedente de Normandia, en la costa norte de Francia, cuyo mayor período de expansión tuvó lugar entre 1030 y 1150. Entre sus conquistas caben destacar la de Inglaterra en 1066, el Sur de Italia, Sicilia, Malta, Antioquia en Oriente Medio y parte del Norte de Africa. Eran buenos jinetes y sus veloces caballos estaban entrenados para la guerra.
