Marine environmental education in French schools : from sea classes to educational marine areas (1964-2022)

Abstract

La investigación se centra en la educación ambiental marina en las escuelas de Francia. Desde una perspectiva histórica, se estudian las iniciativas conducentes al medio natural, siendo considerado como un componente educativo por derecho propio. Se detalla la aparición y posterior generalización de dos medidas innovadoras dentro de las escuelas francesas, consideradas como originales en el sistema educativo nacional: las «clases del mar» (classes de mer) creadas en 1964, y las «áreas marinas educativas» (aires marines éducatives), desarrolladas en 2012. Se realiza trabajo de archivo y se tienen en cuenta los testimonios inéditos de actores involucrados en todas las etapas del desarrollo de estos modelos. El documento arroja luz sobre la forma en que estas medidas relativas a la educación ambiental se estructuraron y evolucionaron, tanto en términos de su aplicabilidad como sus objetivos. Se busca demostrar que si bien estos modelos han sido durante mucho tiempo institucionalizados por el Ministerio de Educación Nacional de Francia y han contribuido a enriquecer la oferta educativa del país, no surgieron directamente de un deseo académico de reformar los currículos escolares. Más bien, se originaron con iniciativas locales implementadas por actores involucrados en redes de acción, que permitieron que sus proyectos ganaran protagonismo y reconocimiento dentro del sistema escolar. Finalmente, el estudio muestra que el éxito de estas medidas y el entusiasmo que generan entre los actores educativos legitiman el papel de la naturaleza en las escuelas. Las entrevistas realizadas, en particular con docentes, destacan el hecho de que el medio natural, considerado como un espacio para el aprendizaje, contribuye al éxito de las lecciones impartidas y aumenta la motivación de los alumnos. Se plantea la cuestión del desarrollo de estas medidas fuera de Francia.
