Variables de personalidad como predictoras de estrategias de afrontamiento

Abstract

En este trabajo se estudia la estructura interna del inventario COPE (Carver, Scheier y Weintraub, 1989), cuestionario que mide 15 estrategias diferentes de afrontamiento. Las fiabilidades mediante el alfa de Cronbach fueron muy similares a las obtenidas en la vesión original. Un análisis factorial extrajo factores similares a los obtenidos en la versión original. Este estudio examina, también, en qué medida neuroticismo, extraversión y la interacción de neuroticismo e extraversión predicen los estilos de afrontamiento focalizados al problema, focalizados a las emociones y de evitación. Un grupo de 305 sujetos (201 mujeres y 104 hombres) respondieron a los cuestionarios EPQ-R y COPE. Los resultados indicaron que el neuroticismo predecía los estilos de afrontamiento emocional y de evitación; extraversión predijo el estilo de afrontamiento focalizado en las emociones, aunque solamente en la muestra de mujeres y no hubo predicción de la interacción neuroticismo y extraversión.
