Tratamiento por autoexposición de un caso de agorafobia

Abstract

Se describe el tratamiento y resultados de un caso de agorafobia mediante un procedimiento de autoexposición gradual en vivo con práctica programada. La mujer, de 31 años, tenía un trastorno de agorafobia, con una historia de 6 años y con conductas de evitación que fueron generalizándose hasta afectar de modo importante a su vida diaria. El tratamiento, que tuvo 20 sesiones espaciadas a lo largo de un año, se basó en un programa de autoexposición a las situaciones evocadoras de ansiedad y que la paciente evitaba. El cambio fue progresivo y después del tratamiento habían desaparecido todos sus comportamientos de evitación y prácticamente la sintomatología subjetiva de ansiedad. Se comentan las dificultades iniciales del caso relacionado con el bajo nivel instruccional de la paciente, así como el contexto de trabajo (un dispositivo sanitario público) donde se desarrolló el tratamiento.
