Se perfila el carácter de Rubén Darío a través de su peculiar vivencia del cristianismo. Siguiendo la trayectoria personal del poeta, según los datos que deja acerca de sí mismo y las referencias directas y alusiones halladas tras la lectura de sus poemas. El cristianismo constituye una dimensión esencial en la vida y en la obra de Rubén Darío. Su religiosidad se desarrolló por un camino tortuoso, plagado de altibajos, donde alternaron emociones y sentimientos profundos y contradictorios.
