A pedra da loucura

Abstract

“A extracção da pedra da loucura” é o título de um quadro de Hieronymus Bosch que retrata uma trepanação, a mais antiga cirurgia. A partir deste quadro faz-se uma análise sobre a evolução da trepanação ao longo da história salientando a prática da trepanação em Portugal. Salientamse alguns aspectos da pintura de Bosch no que diz respeito à trepanação e ao ergotismo não esquecendo que um dos seus quadros veio para Portugal pela mão de Damião de Góis. Por último descrevem-se os aspectos científicos da trepanação.
