Within the corpus of work produced by Marcial Valladares (1821–1903), his grammatical contributions have not received significant attention. This is due, on the one hand, to the fact that his main work in the field, Elementos de gramática gallega (1892), remained unpublished until 1970, and, on the other, to the comparatively limited scope of his grammatical training in relation to that of his more renowned predecessor, Saco Arce. This article examines Valladares as a grammarian of the Galician language and as a scholar concerned with its codification. For this purpose, it analyzes the grammar posthumously published by Editorial Galaxia and reviews the articles that, addressing grammatical issues in a broad sense, provide a framework for a comprehensive understanding of that work. The analysis ultimately aims to evaluate his contributions in terms of focus, organization, and grammatical content.
