Com este artigo pretendemos realizar uma síntese, com base na leitura de várias obras da historiografia peninsular, sobre as relações que o Governo Português manteve com Espanha, no período da Guerra Civil que se viveu neste país entre 1936-1939, e das consequências para Portugal ao nível governamental e social. São também focadas algumas alterações ao nível do Governo e da sociedade portuguesa que foram motivadas por esta guerra. O artigo procura, assim, fornecer uma abordagem essencialmente didáctica do assunto em apreço.

This article is a synthesis, based on readings in peninsular historiography, of the relations maintained by the Portuguese government with Spain during the period of the Spanish Civil War, 1936-139, and of the governmental and social consequences for Portugal. It also explores some of the changes in the government and society brought about by the war. The article seeks to provide an essentially didactic approach to the subject.
