The high level of contamination in the main urban centers, took the authorities to carry an extreme the control measures and forecast, so much in the requirements demanded for the conditions of operation of the motors of internal combustion, like in the demands in the composition of the fuels. One of the alternatives for the decrease of the environmental impact is the oxygenates use like the alcohol fuel in the gasoline. This article looks for to provide the antecedents of the biocombustibles and its application in Colombia, keeping in mind the law imposed by the national government for such an end.
