Abstract

Las comunidades de fauna silvestre son parte de la biodiversidad presente en las ciudades. Existe sin embargo, una generalizada escasez de información acerca de los diversos grupos faunísticos que se encuentran en los ecosistemas urbanos y las implicaciones de su presencia para las comunidades humanas. Los ecosistemas presentes a lo largo del río Pirro, Heredia, Costa Rica, han sufrido procesos de deforestación y fragmentación drásticos, provocando cambios e incluso pérdida de biodiversidad. Las variaciones en esta microcuenca han originado problemas ambientales que cambian la dinámica y propiedades de las comunidades faunísticas nativas. Muchas especies prestadoras de servicios ecosistémicos, como las aves, han sido afectadas; mientras que otras especies asociadas a problemas con la salud humana, como son los roedores, han aumentado. Por lo tanto es fundamental monitorear los patrones y procesos ecológicos asociados con la fauna en el largo plazo, para generar información relevante en la toma de decisiones y la concientización ciudadana. Se planteó como objetivo analizar la riqueza de diferentes grupos faunísticos presentes en esta microcuenca. Se realizó una búsqueda intensiva de organismos de diferentes taxones desde la parte alta de la microcuenca hasta su desembocadura. Se reportaron 25 especies de mariposas, incluida una especie endémica de esta zona de vida. En cuanto a la herpetofauna se encontraron cuatro especies de anfibios, dentro de estos una especie de rana de vidrio y una especie de salamandra, además de siete especies de reptiles. Se reportan 40 especies de aves, incluidas cuatro especies migratorias. Se reportan seis especies de mamíferos, siendo la mayoría roedores. El aporte de esta información es necesario para la toma de decisiones, como premisa para impulsar campañas informativas y educativas para cambiar la percepción de la sociedad sobre la importancia de la fauna urbana y la necesidad de conservarla.

Wildlife communities are part of the biodiversity in the cities; however, there is a generalized shortage of information of some groups of animal living in urban ecosystems and the implications of their presence in human communities. Therefore, the objective was to analyze the richness of different faunal groups in the micro-basins of Pirro river, Heredia, Costa Rica. For this, an intensive search for different taxa was made from the upper Pirro River basin to its outflow. A total of 25 species of butterflies were reported, where Dynamine hecuba, is endemic to this life zone. Regarding the herpetofauna, four species of amphibians were detected, highlighting: the glass frog (Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni) and a salamander (Oedipina uniformis) in addition with seven species of reptiles. A total of 40 species of birds were reported, of which four are migratory species. Regarding mammals, six species were reported, being the majority rodents. The ecosystems along the Pirro river suffer drastic deforestation and fragmentation, causing changes and loss of biodiversity. Furthermore, variations in the basin have caused environmental problems that change the dynamics and properties of faunal communities. Therefore it is essential to develop long lasting monitoring programs to generate relevant information in decision-making and public awareness.
