En esta investigación se ofrecieron, por vez primera, noticias documentadas y amplio análisis filológico sobre el escudo de la Universidad de Costa Rica (única institución universitaria del país por aquel entonces). Ahora, transcurridos casi cuarenta y nueve años, con motivo de la digitalización del referido estudio solicitado por la biblioteca electrónica Scriptorium de la Universidad Nacional (UNA), lo ofrecemos revisado y actualizado en todas sus partes. Y, conservando su título original, lleva antepuesto el siguiente: ESCUDO DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE COSTA RICA - UCR.

This research offered, for the first time, documented news and extensive philological analysis on the coat of arms of the University of Costa Rica (the only university institution in the country by then). Now, after almost forty-nine years, due to the digitization of the aforementioned study requested by the Scriptorium electronic library of the National University (UNA), we offer it revised and updated in all its parts. And, preserving its original title, the following is prepended: SHIELD OF THE UNIVERSITY OF COSTA RICA - UCR.
