LA OMNIPRESENCIA DEL TOTALITARISMO

LA OMNIPRESENCIA DEL TOTALITARISMO

Abstract

The interested political use, by the most diverse social actors, of the notion of "totalitarianism" has impoverished the possibilities of analysis of a phenomenon whose presence in contemporary social life is deeply rooted. The invitation made by Rodrigo Quesada Monge, in his book El Siglo de los Totalitarismos (The Century of Totalitarianisms), today the object of presentation and discussion by the academic community of the Faculty of Social Sciences, leads us to understand the risk of establishing interested associations, based on this type of categories because, as the author indicates, "the daily life of the average man of our days, is full of sublimated totalitarian messages to be as efficient as possible". The relationship between efficiency and performance, on the one hand, and totalitarianism and depersonalization (sacrifice of the subject in front of the individual), on the other hand Quesada proposes in the base of the analysis of the contemporary totalitarianism, indicate that this is a vast field of phenomena, which far exceeds the usual use made of it in the form of a qualifying adjective epithet, intended to disqualify the opponent.
