Exposición a disruptores endocrinos en la infancia. Revisión bibliográfica.

Abstract

Objective: To describe the existing data in the literature regarding childhood exposure to endocrine disruptors, as well as to analyze and deepen in the most updated evidence on the association of such exposure with the development of obesity and other metabolic disorders. Methods: The study consists of a bibliographic review of the international scientific literature, including observational studies, meta-analyses and bibliographic reviews researching the possible association of endocrine disruptors with obesity on population under 19 years old. Results: From the 13 analyzed articles, a positive association between exposure to endocrine disruptors and obesity was extracted, both during the prenatal and perinatal period (parabens, phthalates, acetaminophen) and during childhood/adolescence (bisphenol A, nitrous dioxide and several aldehydes). Conclusions: the evidence evaluated demonstrated the association between childhood exposure to endocrine disruptors and the development of obesity, also affecting the appearance of precocious puberty, insulin resistance and increased cholesterol levels. The effects of this exposure and possible measures to reduce it should be further investigated.
