This Master's Thesis aims to analyse the learning strategies used by students of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) for vocabulary acquisition, focusing on levels A2 and B1 of the CEFR. By means of a cooperative workshop based on the Jigsaw method and learning teams by performance divisions of the Southern Cone theme, the effectiveness of memorisation, cognitive, metacognitive and social strategies in the retention and use of lexis in ELE is evaluated. The results have shown a significant improvement in students' vocabulary acquisition, especially when they combined social and memorisation strategies in cooperative contexts. Therefore, the relevance of adapting strategies to the level and needs of the learners is highlighted, as well as the need to integrate communicative and cooperative approaches in ELE teaching.
