Abstract

La habituación es uno de los fenómenos de aprendizaje más simples y cuya importancia es crítica para la supervivencia de los organismos. La habituación se ha producido en todas las especies animales, tanto cordados como invertebrados. La importancia de estos últimos radica en su sencillez neural y en la relativa facilidad para estudiar las bases neurales del aprendizaje en comparación con los vertebrados. Sin embargo, sería necesario el estudio del comportamiento de los animales, alcanzando un paradigma común que permita el estudio de los mecanismos implicados en la habituación. En esta tesis analizamos algunas de las características de la habituación en la lombriz (efecto del intervalo entre ensayos, habituación, recuperación espontánea, generalización) encontrando evidencia de todas ellas menos del efecto del intervalo entre ensayos. Finalmente, se demostró la especificidad del contexto en una habituación a corto plazo empleando un olor como contexto.

Habituation is one of the simplest learning phenomena and whose importance is critical for the survival of organisms. Habituation has occurred in all animal species, both chordates and invertebrates. The importance of the latter lies in their neural simplicity and in the relative ease of studying the neural bases of learning compared to vertebrates. However, the behavioural study of animals would be necessary, reaching a common paradigm that allows the study of the mechanisms involved in habituation. In this thesis we analyse some of the characteristics of the habituation in the earthworm (inter trial interval effect, habituation, spontaneous recovery, generalization) finding evidence of all of them but inter trial interval effect. Finally, the context specificity in a short term habituation was demonstrated employing an odour as context.
