LACUNARIDAD DE LA ESCRITURA EN LA EVALUACIÓN DE ALTERACIONES COGNITIVAS Y MOTORAS EN TRASTORNOS MENTALES

Abstract

Writing is a complex skill that involves several cognitive and motor processes but that improves with practice. For this reason the analysis of writing offers the possibility of evaluating these kinds of processes, becoming an important biomarker of pathologies presenting cognitive and motor alterations. This is the case of mental disorders, such as psychosis or bipolar disorder, where cognitive and motor deficits represent an important factor in symptomatology. In the present dissertation, we have used a new tool for the analysis of handwriting, based on a measure that characterizes the shape and geometric structure of a text or drawing. Specifically we propose lacunarity. Thus, the main objective of this doctoral thesis is to examine the lacunarity of handwriting in the evaluation of cognitive and motor alterations in mental disorders.
