USAID and Agricultural Research: Review of USAID Support for Agricultural Research -- 1952-1996

Abstract

This paper reviews USAID support to international agricultural research programs and development of agricultural knowledge systems. This support for technology development has been an important aspect of past strategies for global agricultural development. Development of systems to provide improved agricultural technology is recognized as one important component of the total assistance efforts needed to transform developing country agriculture and increase productivity and revitalize rural economies.
