ABSTRACT: This document attempts to identify which factors affect and complicate learning functions along their study in secondary education, and in particular, in high school. For this, it is performed an analysis of several investigations, which helps to infer five key difficulties. From them, it is made an analysis of these difficulties with a group of students verifying that those obstacles are real and they are present in the classroom. All of this report gives the possibility to continue with an investigation about how the teaching-learning process can improve the education about functions and how it should be taught during the school years.
