Abstract

The main objective of this study is to examine the continuity and rupture between the Upper-Final Magdalenian and the Azilian periods in the Cantabrian region. This region holds significant importance for global Prehistory due to its cultural richness. To this end, an analysis has been carried out based on the most relevant and influential research on the topic. The focus has been placed on aspects such as the paleoenvironment, fauna, flora, technologies and industries of the time, subsistence strategies, settlement patterns, and the symbolic systems of both periods, in order to compare them. Through this methodology, various elements have been identified that support either the idea of cultural continuity between the periods or, conversely, the notion of rupture. In this way, the aim is to determine which factors point toward continuity and which characteristics reinforce the hypothesis of a break between the two periods. Thus, it has been observed that both perspectives are supported by specific evidence, with certain elements indicating continuity and others favouring the notion of rupture.
