Abstract

This tesis focuses on the stage of decline of great civilizations in the Eastern Mediterranean, at the end of the Bronze Age that gave way to the Dark Age. One of the causes of this decline, although not the only one, was the eruption of the socalled “Sea Peoples” and their devastating impact on the cities of the Mediterranean. Precisely we dedícate a first parto f our tesis to the análisis of these “Sea Peoples”, listing the hypotheses raised about their origins, as well as the description of the violent action of some of them in the territories of the Syrian Palestinian strip. In this part of the text we deal in detail the concrete case of the peleset, the Philistines, who gave name to the southern most of the regions of the ancient Levant. In a second part, we address other possible causes of decline, such as natural disasters, droughts and famines, as well as earthquakes, internal revolts in empires and the administrative, economic, social and cultural collapse that led to a deterioration in interterritorial relations in the Eastern Mediterranean. The knowledge of this historical moment allows us to draw as a conclusion a parallelism with our globalized world
