Adicciones comportamentales y estímulos supernormales

Behavioral addictions and supernormal stimuli

Adicciones comportamentales y estímulos supernormales

Abstract

Behavioral addictions refer to pathological behavioral attitudes that demonstrate addictive ability despite not being caused by an exogenous substance. Behavioral additions cause tolerance and abstinence effects similar to drug addiction by employing the same brain reward mechanisms originally provoked by biological evolution. Within psychology, supernormal stimuli are known as disruptive artificial elements to instinctive organic impulses aimed at ensuring survival through adaptation or reproduction. These objects beyond biological expectation are misinterpreted as more beneficial than those of natural appearance limited by biological reality by being an exaggerated version of an already existing element. The aim of this investigation is to support the new considerations proposed by the DSM-5 by linking them with the phenomena of supernormal stimuli and to analyze how both processes act similarly in the reward circuits of the brain. In turn, we intend to propose a scientific hypothesis of morality based on the branches of knowledge of the philosophy of science, bioethics, and physiology. We will exemplify this relationship through a study of ludopathy and a statistical analysis of this disease that demonstrates the epidemiological dangers of additives not linked to substances
