Arbeid med autentiske tekstar i kjemi programfag: Kritisk lesing og vurdering av relevans

Abstract

Denne studien presenterer bruk av leseverktøy i arbeid med ein autentisk tekst i kjemi programfag. Føremålet med studien var mellom anna å undersøke om verktøya kunne bidra til å fremme kritisk lesing og evne til å sjå teksten sin relevans. Arbeidet tar utgangspunkt i kompetansemål i kjemi 1 og overordna del av den nye læreplanen med særleg fokus på kritisk tenking, grunnleggande ferdigheiter og det å kunne presentere kjemifagleg innhald frå ulike kjelder. Elevane i undersøkinga fekk utdelt rollekort i møte med ein tekst, og diskuterte sidan i grupper ved bruk av eit samtalekart. Funna indikerer at elevane meistra å presentere innhaldet i teksten og å bruke visse strategiar for kritisk lesing av naturvitskaplege tekstar som skildra i litteraturen. Dei fann også fleire koplingar til seg sjølv og samfunnet når det gjeldt relevans. Noko som var meir fråverande i diskusjonane var identifisering av bevis for påstandar, og elevane uttrykte gjerne utfordringar med å identifisere føremålet med teksten. Fleire av gruppene opplevde også teksten som lite relevant for kjemifaget. Det kan tyde på eit behov for å påpeike at kjemi ikkje berre er teori knytt til atom og bindingar på mikronivå, men at det også omfattar korleis vi omgås og blir påverka av kjemiske stoff i vår kvardag.
