ABSTRACT: Much research has been published on the psychological trauma experienced by cancer patients, in particular breast cancer, but few studies have been conducted on the correlation behind such trauma and factors such as personal history and personality. Referring to common statements made by breast cancer patients during therapy, I will explore how social compulsion towards positive thinking ( pink ribbon culture as well as cultural hegemony) could prevent ( positive?) psychological transitions in patients during the different stages of the oncology process / therapy..
